AI-TO-AUDIENCE
AI-TO-AUDIENCE is a multi-stage project that explores the conversational qualities and potentials of Artificial Intelligence (AI)-enabled real-time computational processing. Through the collaborative creation and training of Leo, an audience-aware AI character, media artists, spatial designers, software engineers, performing artists, and audiences work together to shape Leo's conversational abilities during a series of workshops and public presentations. The project culminates in a public exhibition where visitors engage with the 8 foot interactive character in dynamic, impromptu exchanges.
The project actively investigates the ethical complexities of responsive AI personalities, with artists contributing to the development of conversational technology. By leveraging technologies such as image detection, voice-to-voice responsiveness, and existing AI large language models, AI-TO-AUDIENCE aims to move beyond scripted, awkward formalities and to explore the nuances of conversational relationships.
AI-TO-AUDIENCE aims to provoke thought and feelings about the emerging relationships between humans and AI, raising important questions about the nature of conversation, empathy, artistic expression, and authenticity in the age of Artificial Intelligence.
